Small Tortoiseshell
The small tortoiseshell is common and widespread in Ireland but there is some evidence that it has declined in some areas. It has been assesed as least concern.
Adults feed on nectar and may hibernate over winter. Eggs are laid on the common nettle, on which the larvae feed.
