Dark Green Fritillary

The dark green fritillary is categorised as Vulnerable in Ireland. There has been extensive loss of colonies in the east and along the south cost, and this is projected to continue.

The main habitats for this species are coastal heaths and sand dunes, extensive grasslands and marginal heath and grassland on open hillsides. The current conservation status of all of these habitats is poor and getting worse.

The distribution of the dark green fritillary is mainly coastal but everywhere it is localised and fragmented.
